SourceBeat - The Open Source Knowledge Factory

Definitely a good idea...

Welcome to SourceBeat,
...the digital publishing organization for open source books.

At SourceBeat, we believe the traditional publishing model does not work in rapidly changing environments such as open source software. Traditional books take too long to go from author to bookshelf, and many times the books are outdated soon after release. Until now. SourceBeat is the first publisher to create always updated open source technology books, written by expert authors such as James Goodwill, Bill Dudney, Matt Raible and many others. Utilizing our "LiveBook™” process, readers and subscribers are always sure of getting the most current information on each open source project.

Shadow, light

Battiato is my favorite italian singer, this is an english version of IMO its best song.

"The shadow of the light

Protect me from the forces of evil,
At night, asleep, when I am unconscious;
When I am uncertain of my way.
And never leave me...
Never, never leave me!
Bear me up to the loftiest heights
in one of realms of peace;
It's time to leave this cycle of life.
And never leave me...
Never, never leave me!
For the joys of the deepest affection,
Or of the heart's gentiest yearnings
Are only the shadow of the light.
Remind me how unhappy I am
Far from your laws,
Teach me how not to waste the time that is left to me.
And never leave me...
Never,never leave me!
For the peace I have felt in certain monasteries,
Or the vibrant joining of all the senses in joyful
Are only the shadow of the light."

Here Comes Tommy -- An Unmanned, Autonomous Java Technology-Powered Dune Buggy

"Tommy's microprocessors rely on a hardware-based Java Virtual Machine (JVM) running Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME, formerly known as J2ME). The microcontrol platform is a version of PRI-MAX (PRI-MAX, micro profile). Commands are sent to controllers over serial ports, and controllers receive feedback data from motor encoders. Controllers must act in real time, at high rates, and with the low latency that a feedback-driven dynamic mechanical system inherently requires."

Serene Mobile phone

I've used a circular keyboard for more than one year with the nokia 3650, now samsung and bang&olufsen have made a new fantastic phone, cool design, really expensive and so on with also a not usable keyboard... History repeating...

IE View - Launch pages in IE from Firefox

Somethimes websites are really bad... For example you cannot book a flight with Air One with Firefox... This is a goof plugin/WA :-)

"IE View is a simple Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox extension (for Microsoft Windows systems), which allows the current page or a selected link to be opened in Internet Explorer. I use Firefox 99.99% of the time, but there are those moments -- particularly when testing new pages, or when viewing that rare IE-only page that's actually interesting -- when I need to see what things look like in IE."

Frank's Corner, Running Windows applications and games on Linux using Wine

I'm definitely thinking to switch to ubunto linux, I've the dvd iso, I'll try to run the live just to see if my wifi is recognized... But... What about all my favorite window applications? I like very much nero, winamp and my company uses Adobe(R) Illustrator(R)... And now? I'll try with wine... And I found a great website:

"This website contains all the information you need to get some popular Windows applications and games running on Linux using Wine. Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix.
All information on this site is related to Wine and not to WineX/Cedega or CrossOver Office."

Main Page - FreeMind - free mind mapping software

I like very much mind mapping programs, free mind is open, in java and it works, what do you want more than this?

"FreeMind - free mind mapping software

FreeMind is a premier free mind-mapping software written in Java. The recent development has hopefully turned it into high productivity tool. We are proud that the operation and navigation of FreeMind is faster than that of MindManager because of one-click "fold / unfold" and "follow link" operations.

So you want to write a completely new metaphysics? Why don't you use FreeMind? You have a tool at hand that remarkably resembles the tray slips of Robert Pirsig, described in his sequel to Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance called Lila. Do you want to refactor your essays in a similar way you would refactor software? Or do you want to keep personal knowledge base, which is easy to manage? Why don't you try FreeMind? Do you want to prioritize, know where you are, where you've been and where you are heading, as Stephen Covey would advise you? Have you tried FreeMind to keep track of all the things that are needed for that?"

BBC - iMP - About

IMHO DVB-T is almost a dead tecnology, IP-TV and P2P sharing are much better. BBC Uk is investing on p2p distribution technology.

"iMP is an application in development offering UK viewers the chance to catch up on TV and radio programmes they may have missed for up to seven days after they have been broadcast, using the internet to legally download programmes to their home computers. iMP uses peer to peer distribution technology (P2P) to legally distribute these programmes."
